Moto G6 Plus – The Best Moto G Ever Produced

Released worldwide on April 19, three versions of MotoG arrived. The return of the Moto G6 Play, which was abandoned in the fifth generation, the traditional version G and the device tested here, the G6 Plus.

Last year Motorola launched the Moto X4 , the phone became the basis for the new generation of handsets from the manufacturer. And not to be outdone, apart from some initial front camera issues, the X4 is a great phone for what it sets out to do. The glass coating, double set of cameras, in refurbished design.

Design – Moto G6 Plus

It was using the structure of the Moto X4 that Motorola launched the Moto G6. It just was not fully copied, so to speak, as some trends of 2018 became necessary, for example, the screen in 18: 9 format.

Now with very narrow edges, and not adopting the notch trend, Motorola has maintained the trademark design with rounded corners. The rear looks like a little robot, where the camera’s sensors are located. In fact, the bulge of the lenses is great, even with the cover that accompanies the product, it jumps out.

Ah, now all handsets are coming with covers, bad for manufacturers of these products, good for the consumer who does not need to buy. Would this hood accompany the phone a broken glass reducer? I think so. Much cheaper for brands to send a cover along, cheering the consumer, than to hear criticism for the fragility of the back. A wise decision in my opinion.

The biggest problem I realize when “obliging” users to use a cover, after all, the rear glass requires, is that you will never have the phone in the dimensions that it was designed. The cover usually grows the product, leaving the big phones even more awkward.

If you are a reader of my reviews, you will see many times I prefer metal backs. I want a phone that is resistant to small drops, that does not need a cover. If I liked them, I would buy an iPhone.  

Going back to the Moto G6 Plus design, I can say that it was one of the most beautiful designs that Motorola has ever done. The indigo color, which is a dark navy blue, is elegant.

Fingerprint sensor

The front face of the device kept the edges. At the top are the camera sensor, speakerphone, proximity sensor and the front flash. After the screen, we have the fingerprint sensor at the bottom edge. It’s Motorola kept it up front, changed the design, making it small. There is also the call microphone on the front face. Something different.

On the side faces, just to the right we see the volume buttons and turn off. While in the upstairs area, it has a microphone for picking up noise, and the SIM card slot. Already on the bottom, only the p2 jack and usb input type C. Where did the sound output stop? Multimedia is on the loudspeaker, so there is no sound output on the bottom of the phone. I’ll talk about the sound, further down.

To the rear of the phone as I have already commented, there is the circle (robot face), where the two sensors of the camera are located, and the dual led flash.

I confess that I really liked the design of the device, but the size of it was not so well taken advantage of. With dimensions of 159.9 x 75.5 x 7.99 mm and weight of 165 grams. Do not use notch to increase the screen, made the phone great.

I know his name is PLUS, but ASUS was able to put a 6.2-inch screen on a body with a smaller 1.9 mm height. Samsung put the 6-inch screen on the A6 + and A8 + with the same size. Surely they could have lowered the bottom edge, that Motorola logo is there for what? People do not buy a Motorola to advertise.

 

HARDWARE – Moto G6 Plus

Well, if the design has improved, the hardware could not be left behind. It has evolved in processor, screen, battery and memories.

Screen – bright, vivid and sharp

The screen with 5.9 inches, IPS, FULLHD + (2160×1080) and density of 407 ppi. I confess that I liked it. It seems sharper, livelier and brighter than the previous generation. And it is not for less, are 800 nits of screen brightness, 1459 is contrast ratio, too high for a price smartphone.

And although it increased by only 6 dots per inch in pixel density, that display looked more sharp than its predecessor. It still loses to OLED screens, but it worked out very well.

Processor and memories

The Moto G6 Plus processor is a Snapdragon 630. Octa-core, with 4 cores of 2.2GHz and 4 of 1.8GHz, tends to be more economical than the 625 used in the Plus version of the G5. Beyond the speed of conversation with the ram memory is superior.

The G6 Plus memories are 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM, 1GB more RAM and double the internal storage. 64GB today are essential for anyone who wants to keep the smartphone for at least a couple of years.

Moto G6 Plus performance

In terms of performance, I can go two ways. The first is everyday use on Android screens, social networks and apps. In that sense, the phone did very well. There is no gagging and slowness.

In lighter games the performance was also enjoyable. The most recent parameter is the game PUBG, in it, the game automatically set the graphics to the minimum. I even increased to the maximum, the test character, but the lockups and loss of frames were perceptible. Therefore, to run the game in a “healthy” way, the minimum settings are recommended.

The sound of the Moto G6 Plus is enhanced by Dolby Audio, an “app” that manages and equalizes the audio output from the speaker. The sound quality is pleasant, the option to be able to equalize music, videos and even sound games is something I liked. It emits around 76dB in music, 2 more than the Moto X4, 82dB in voice call, almost 15 more than the X4. At maximum volume, there is no sound distortion.

The good side of employing a sound quality on the smartphone, is the voice call. You know, that traditional connection that smartphones still make? It becomes clearer and hearing what the other person is talking about clearly is great.

Could be better? Yes. The G6 Plus could have stereo speakers. Another, even lower, sound output would help even more in sound quality and scaling. Who knows this point may be employed in a flagship brand in 2018.

Moto G6 Plus Cameras

With 12MP + 5MP, we have a set there Moto X4 to serve the G6 Plus. The 12MP sensor is obviously the main one, while the 5MP sensor is used to create the blurry background effect, or portrait mode, as you prefer to call it. The main lens has a 78 ° viewing angle, f / 1.7 aperture, while the 5MP aperture f / 2.2 aperture.

HDR is present, but be careful not to erase the photo. That was a problem I found on the phone. The preview of the photo, that image that appears on the screen before you click to take pictures, is somewhat slow. Yes, I’ve seen several phones that have a lag, but the G6 Plus is bigger. You may not notice this, but I’ve noticed. Therefore, hold the device securely so it does not get erased.

The camera software was developed by Motorola, has some imaging modes, which are easily exchanged for an icon that is on the screen. It also has Professional mode, which Motorola calls Manual, in fact wise decision, because professional, the smartphone cameras are some light years away.

I found an interesting mode that is object recognition, which captures the object, uses the internet to recognize it, then shows search results about the capture. Other smartphones already do this, but I need to point out that it’s also on the list.

The front camera with 8MP, f / 2.2 aperture does good selfies. In the dark they pixelizam yes, but still I can consider good. The software features a group selfie mode, you center the phone, click, and then drag to one side, then the other, similar to making 360-degree images. It Works very well. The problem was not counting portrait mode on the front camera.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Video: recording at 4K at 30 fps, or 1080p at 60 or 30fps did not please me very much. Mainly by the camera count only with electronic image stabilization. The colors up are good, but the sharpness not so much. Oh, but I’ll just make videos to upload to WhatsApp. OK, the camera will be enough for you.

The cameras gave me a job to reach the verdict. In the first few details of the initial photos I had been too picky on the phone. I gradually realized that I could get more out of the cameras. Do not require too much of the phone that costs less than 1800 reais, unfortunately.

Battery that holds up the stride

A point that surprised me. It grew 200 mAh, in conjunction with Snapdragon 630 and Android Oreo, it was possible to maintain 2 days of normal use. Without overuse of videos, or data from mobile networks, I managed to stay for a whole weekend, using the phone when notifications alerted me, browsing pages and social networks.

Watching videos, we got 11:02 hours intermittent, using wifi network, automatic brightness in 50%, our test pattern. The last two smartphones I tested, Galaxy Note 8 and Zenfone 4 Max, got 9:45 and 14:05 videos, respectively. I can say that compared to Note 8, it did well in this regard, already against the Zenfone 4 Max, better yet, it is only 3 hours difference for 3200 mAh batteries against 5000 mAh of the Asus device.

Charge: If the battery can handle the stride, the charger must help. We are talking about a turbo charger of 15w, standard 2017, which in 30 minutes is capable of charging about 35 to 40% of the battery. And in about 1: 50 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. you will get 100%. We’ve seen faster loaders around here, but still good enough.

 

Moto G6 Plus software – Android Oreo

Android Oreo, Motorola. It’s been for some time that Motorola’s software has ceased to be a “Clean Android”, and it is not to disparage the work of the manufacturer, quite the opposite. Actions, in the literal sense, help a lot in day-to-day tasks. Turn the phone with the screen down and it goes into do not disturb mode, the traditional shaken to turn on the flashlight and twist twice to open the camera, who stops using a Motorola misses the facilities.

In addition to the actions, has the Moto Screen, which when active, will decrease the blue light at night, to “call sleep”. You will keep the screen on while you face your smartphone and notifications with the screen off so you simply tap your finger to see more information, discard or even respond without unlocking the device.

Oh, I almost forgot, Moto Voice, still in beta. It seems that all manufacturers now need a custom voice aid, with their name stamped. Moto Voice is bad, does not understand simple questions like “will it rain today?”. I know I should not talk about Bixby here, but Moto Voice is worse than she is. Thankfully, Motorola has stamped a BETA on the icon, which is why I believe they are working VERY much to improve the project. In my opinion, all the assistants still serve more to disrupt, than actually assist in the basic tasks.

 

MotoG6 Plus Review Verdict

The G6 Plus without a doubt was the best Moto G I’ve ever used / tested. The design is a strong point, as well as the screen, battery and sound. I confess I expected a little more from the camera, but even so, I can not say that it is bad, not from far. Motorola software and modifications go hand in hand for an enjoyable experience. Now with 4GB of ram and 64GB of internal storage, the device, when purchased, will supply the user’s need for a long time if you use the hood. Do not risk leaving it on the side, the phone is flat and the back protrusion will one time or another knock the device down.

Currently I tested 2 phones of 2018, it was the G6 Plus and the Samsung A8, among them, I would get the Moto G6 Plus, for cost / benefit. The camera and screen of the A8 are better, but the G6 Plus in the work, allied to a price a little cheaper.
